EXCLUSIVE — Inside BLACK BOOK: THE ART OF JIM STARLIN

Get cosmic.

Jim Starlin’s been getting a lot of extra attention this summer, what with the success of Infinity War and its focus on megavillain Thanos, whom the artist created decades ago.

Perfect time, then, to check out Ominous Press’ Black Book: The Art of Jim Starlin, which is set to follow the boutique publisher’s Black Book: The Art of Bart Sears (click here).

The hardcover has been funded via Kickstarter but there’s still time to get in on a gauntlet full of pretty terrific bonuses. The book is also being published in tandem with Mindgames, Starlin’s illustrated prose sci-fi novella. (Click here for info on the Kickstarter.)

Black Book: The Art of Jim Starlin is a 112-page edition that spans the artist’s career. It includes not just classic images but private commissions, personal work and a variety of pages. Most of the art has never been published before.

Both Marvel and DC are represented — including the original Thanos concept drawing and several color pages from a Shazam! story that was never printed. Among his creator-owned properties, there’s a peek at a never-completed Dreadstar story.

We got our hands on a copy and below you’ll find an EXCLUSIVE LOOK at 13 pages.

The edition’s not been finalized so it’s still subject to change but here’s what you can generally expect:

There are even more pages in the book.

From the incomplete Dreadstar story

From Kid Kosmos

From ‘Breed
