One of our faves will be with us at East Coast Comicon on April 11-12!
I have no idea why I called this J.J. Sedelmaier’s Lafftoons. No idea at all.
No matter. Point us, J.J. is a great guy, very funny and the co-creator of some of Saturday Night Live‘s most famous cartoons, including my favorite, The Ambiguously Gay Duo. He’s also well known for working with Stephen Colbert on Tek Jansen, as well as Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law. (Much more than all that, too!)
As it happens, J.J. will be doing a panel about his awesome animation at East Coast Comicon (hosted by yours truly) on Saturday 4/11 at 2 p.m.
J.J. is one of many guests — like Neal Adams, Fred Hembeck and Fred Van Lente — whom we’re spotlighting over the next two weeks.
For the full guest list, click here. Steranko! Bisley! Nocenti! Steve Rude! And for tickets, click here! East Coast Comicon is at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in N.J. There will be 300 exhibitors, the 1966 Batmobile, cosplay and other contests and so much more! Come join us, won’t you?
Here he answers five innocuous questions with witty aplomb:
Dan Greenfield: What’s your Secret Origin?
J.J. Sedelmaier: I was actually “born” when a speeding rail transit express slammed into a semi full of art supplies and history textbooks. I was found 2.5 miles from the unmarked crossing having been created by a rare form of conception attributed to the mixture of basic knowledge and benzine derivatives.
What are you working on now?
Getting the smell of benzine out of all my clothes.
What’s your favorite convention memory?
My first sighting of a 1958 Edsel at the Chicago Auto Show.
What’s the first comic book you ever got?
A Dell Mighty Mouse 25-cent giant.
Do you still have it?
That’s a joke, right ? What do YOU think ?
What comics do you recommend right now?
Anything that rocks your boat. In terms of new comics — Allred, Shaner … vintage stuff as well, of course …
