Out this week from Marvel…

Steve “the Dude” Rude has a pair of ginchy homage variant covers this week that may have escaped your notice — one for Daredevil #2 and one for Fantastic Four #10.
Both covers riff on books that came out in early 1966: The Daredevil cover is a tribute to Daredevil #16 by John Romita and Frank Giacoia, which marked the first time Jazzy John drew Spider-Man — basically a tryout to see if he could take over for Steve Ditko. The FF cover honors the landmark Fantastic Four #49, by Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott, the middle part of the Galactus Trilogy.
Dig the variants and their originals:

Marvel has not marketed these as 60th anniversary covers but they should have — as well as any more that may be headed our way, I’d say.

“Ginchy”….. had to look that one up. A 50s slang for cool – always learning here at 13. 😉
I don’t see Rude’s touch in the Spider-Man. Maybe it’s the ink or coloring…. But that FF cover is definitely Rude’s style on full display. Love it.
I wish Marvel and DC would ask Steve to do some new work for them. He’s still 100% still working. New Nexus just got launched on Kickstarter last week. Heck, he does a Saturday painting class LIVE that are very interesting to view (YouTube).

Worth checking out the comedy album (now on YouTube) called ‘How To Speak Hip’ by Del Close & John Brent. Cut in about 1962 I believe.

Interesting – that Steve Rude FF cover is at least a dozen years old, see: https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1184945
