For The Amazing Spider-Man #1000…

Comics fans often get into a hubbub whenever a publisher pulls out a legacy number as a way of making a big splash (and, not coincidentally, big sales). Such is the case with Marvel’s The Amazing Spider-Man #1000 — Issue #36 of the current run — coming in September.
I, for one, am agnostic. It’s silly but understandable, and I also happen to like big ol’ celebratory comics, so I just kind of roll with it.
Any such issues always come with precisely 1,000,006 covers, and so it is with ASM #1000. Most of them are the standard poster-style covers by Big Time Artists, but there are two that I particularly dig. One is over here, but the other, below, brings the 1967 Spider-Man cartoon into the fray.
Dig this:

Yes, I know they’re doing this because of the meme, but all it does is stoke my ardent desire for a series (mini- or otherwise) set in the ’67 cartoon universe.
Dan Slott pitched a Filmation Superman/Spider-Man ’67 team-up for the recent Spider-Man/Superman special, and was shot down because of the complicated approvals process.
But where there’s will, there’s a way, and I’m just hoping somebody finds the will someday.
ASM #1000 is due Sept. 16. This cover, like the others revealed so far, lists for $9.99.
