AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1000 Variant Homages JOHN ROMITA’s Classic ISSUE #100 Cover

Jazzy John’s classic is getting a lot of attention this summer — and an update…

One of the greatest covers in comics history is unquestionably 1971’s The Amazing Spider-Man #100 by the late, great John Romita:

An original costs a pretty penny, so it’s dang groovy that in August we’re getting a Facsimile Edition, complete with a foil variant and a standard variant by Will Robson:

But wait there’s more! Marvel in September will release a variant cover for The Amazing Spider-Man #1000 by Ed McGuinness that simultaneously pays homage to the original, while also updating it.

Dig this:

It’s only set for a foil release — which I’ll get — but I’m also hoping we’ll see a standard one at some point, perhaps with the inevitable second printing. Ot third printing. Or 13th printing.

Either way, the cover is one of two I’m particularly excited about for Issue #1000, which comes out Sept. 16. All covers (so far) list for $9.99.

Where? Midtown has it listed for just under $15 and that’s with preorder discount too. Not sure I’ll do $15 for just a cover. I know there’s no chance I’m reading the story within. Even the Ross cover (I think) lacks his normal punch. The camera angle seems off. Now had they done a bunch more facsimile editions, I’d be so down for that.
