SNEAK PEEK: One of comics’ most beloved artists spent some time in Riverdale…
Kurt Schaffenberger is probably best known for his work on Lois Lane and the original Captain Marvel — but in his many artistic travels, he also visited Riverdale with the Archie gang in the early ’70s.
Now, one of those rare stories — Luck Struck from 1972’s Archie’s Pals ‘n’ Gals #73 — is being reprinted in full in Archie Jumbo Comics Digest #320, due June 2.

Someone posted another cool Kurt Schaffenberger Archie story featuring Reggie, Midge and Moose on one of the Archie Facebook fan pages. I always thought the Kurt Schaffenberger Lois Lane books were very similar to the Betty and Veronica books drawn by Dan DeCarlo. Schaffenberger’s Lois and Lana were very stylish and almost seemed like grown up versions of Betty and Veronica in the style department. Schaffenberger’s Superman was, in my opinion, the most handsome Superman ever.
