Dig Sebastian Fiumara’s Groovy Version of GOLDEN AGE BATMAN

A resplendent variant cover for the upcoming The Bat-Man: First Knight #2…

We’re only three weeks into January but as far as 2024 comics that intrigue me the most go, I gotta put Dan Jurgens and Mike Perkins’ The Bat-Man: First Knight right at the top.

The DC Black Label series, which premieres in March, gives us a modern take on Batman’s first year. I’m not talking Year One. I’m talking 1939.

Anyway, April’s Issue #2 was solicited this week and DC unveiled two of the three covers that are coming — Perkins’ excellent main cover and a particularly groovy variant by Sebastian Fiumara.

Dig this:

That cowl looks like it was taken straight from the serials.

Now check out Perkins’ cover, which borrows from the much-homaged Detective Comics #31:

Hey, and let’s not forget there’s a story attached to all of this. Here’s the solicitation:

  1. Love it. Might be the first modern comic I look forward to it coming out. My only issue is I think Gordon should smoke a pipe and not a cigarette. I’m okay with him being lean. Certainly not a desk commissioner. The Bat-Man looks good!

  2. Looks cool. May have to pick this one up.
Wouldn’t it be great if they made a new Batman movie from this time period?
