BATMAN & SUPERMAN IN WORLD’S FINEST: THE SILVER AGE OMNIBUS VOL. 2 (NEW EDITION)

Authors: Edmond Hamilton, Dave Wood, Bill Finger

Illustrated by Curt Swan, Jim Mooney

Superman and Batman first teamed up in these stories from comics’ Silver Age, reprinted in one massive hardcover!

They had been fighting crime separately for years, but it wasn’t until the historic Superman #76 in 1952 that Superman, the Man of Steel, finally teamed up with Batman himself. That story proved so popular that the two quickly became the main feature in World’s Finest Comics —and the greatest friendship in comics was born. Their adventures together would feature heroes and villains such as Robin, Batwoman, Lex Luthor, Bat-Mite, Mr. Mxyzptlk, and more alien threats than might seem possible.

In 1941, during the peak of the Golden Age of Comics, the Green Arrow made his debut. Armed with only a bow and a quiver full of arrows, the Emerald Archer and his teen sidekick Speedy must battle corrupt gangsters, evil Nazis and deadly super-villains as a modern day Robin Hood. These groundbreaking classic stories—which started Green Arrow’s decades-spanning fandom—are gathered for the first time in this singular, expansive hardcover collection.

A few thoughts:

— The Batman and Green Arrow books did not list more than the basic price, page count and sales date info, so I added the descriptions from previous editions.

Batman originally came out in 2017, World’s Finest in 2019, and Green Arrow in 2018.

— Standard caveat: These haven’t been formally solicited yet, so much is subject to change.

  1. I wish they would finally release a Green Arrow Silver Age Omnibus.

  2. It seems as if DC is either unsure or not committed to releasing chronological Omnibus books like Marvel. Comparatively, there is very little DC Omnibus output. Unfortunately, DC shifted to releasing random Hard & Soft cover collections, i.e., DC Finest (to compare with Marvel Epic Collection series). So I hope this latest announcement is good news for DC Omni collectors. I have a number of DC Omni titles that need continuation. Also, that new Green Arrow volume looks like the dust cover trade dress of the original DC Omni books which would also be nice if DC would continue with this style of dust cover for those who already began collecting them.

  3. Basically it’s only one new one. The rest are retreads. It concerns me because most of the people who are enthusiastic about these collections already own them and thus sales will likely be sparse. I do hope that we see the reverse of what we are seeing now – the republication of Omni material in DC Finest – in that when DC Finest drifts into new areas (i.e. the Bronze Age Flash) that this captured later in the larger Omnibus format. I can replace smaller paper version with larger sturdier ones but its hard to justify the other way around.

  4. Did the Golden Age Green Arrow Omnibus sell well enough to warrant a reprint?
