CHRISTMAS IN SEPTEMBER: Get Ready for a HOLLY JOLLY Time

A SNEAK PEEK at TwoMorrows’ forthcoming pop-culture history of the most wonderful time of the year…

It’s been a long, strange, grim year already and I’m sure there are plenty of folks who really can’t wait for Christmas this year.

Well, it’s Sept. 1, so we’ve got some time yet but here’s a SNEAK PEEK that will get your chestnuts roasting early: TwoMorrows this November will be publishing Holly Jolly by Mark Voger, an illustrated history of Christmas in pop culture — from comics to film to music to TV to toys, you name it.

Just dig the table of contents:

The book is patterned after Voger’s Groovy, which took a similar approach to the 1960s. (You can click here for more on that.)

And though it is a tad early to get into the Christmas spirit, here are just a few pages to give you a whiff of egg nog:

Holly Jolly is a 192-page hardcover. It lists for $43.95 and will be released about Nov. 4. It will be available at comics shops and booksellers but you can already pre-order it directly from TwoMorrows. (Click here.)

  1. Thanks for the preview. I ordered this a month or so ago for a friend’s Christmas gift. Now I’m sure she’ll love it. (And hopefully let me borrow it for a bit…!)

  3. About 30% of my comic book collection is Christmas related. We have one unused bedroom in our house that we keep decorated twelve months a year in case we ever “need a little Christmas”. Can’t wait for this book to be published.

  4. Ah the memories. I had more than a few of those iconic toys in the bottom images. That takes me back to simpler times. I’m glad some of them are still around for purchase.

  5. That last image… I had that Geronimo, and Jonny West, with all their accessories and their horses! I got them when I was 5 and was in the hospital for something. Awesome toys!

  6. The BATMAN #27 picture above was one of my earliest Golden Age purchases. For legal reason, I must state that issue is now under ownership of my grandson’s trust.

  7. What a resource this will be for fans who have not done some deep diving already looking for information as many of us have. Knowing the work from Tomorrow’s even those of us who have done searching will find something new. It is paid for already and I am waiting for shipping. The latest FCA section in Alter Ego magazine has a wonderful interview by PCHamerlinck with Harry Matesky about his wonderful collection. Thanks Dan.
