Krypto, Ace, Streaky, the Legion of Super-Pets — and MORE!
Hey, I dunno if you’ve heard but May 2022 will bring us the Warner Bros. animated flick DC League of Super-Pets, starring the voices of Dwayne Johnson as Krypto the Superdog and Kevin Hart as Ace the Bat-Hound (not to mention talents such as Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski, Keanu Reeves and Jameela Jamil).
How much fun is that?
But you know what’s also fun? DC is preparing a softcover collection pegged to the movie’s theatrical release, called — wait for it — Tails of the Super Pets!, featuring some seriously groovy Golden and Silver Age stories.
Dig the official description, from an Amazon listing:
TAILS OF THE SUPER PETS!
By Various
Where would our heroes be without their Super Pets? Follow the adventures of Krypto the Super-Dog, Streaky the Super-Cat, and Ace the Bat-Hound in this incredible collection!
The Super Pets are icons in their own right! Collected together are the tales of Krypto the Super-Dog, Streaky the Super-Cat, and Ace the Bat-Hound through a variety of classic comics! This collection includes stories from Action Comics #261-266, 277-293; Batman #125; Adventure Comics #210-256, 293-322, 364; Superman #176; Wonder Woman #23; and Superboy #76!

A few thoughts:
— The film is due May 20, 2022. The 184-page softcover is due May 3. It lists for $19.99.
— That Wonder Woman issue? Yes, it’s a Kanga-palooza!
— Inspired casting: Lex Luthor will be voiced by Marc Maron. (I also love that the trailer riffs on the Superman: The Movie credits.)
— Standard caveat: This has not been solicited by DC yet, so nothing is official until it’s official. Even then, things can change. Just keep coming to 13th Dimension for updates.

Only 1 Ace story? Travesty.

Too bad this is what’s reprinted from the era, when so many more worthy things aren’t. But yes, depending on what the exact, final contents are, I’ll likely be picking this up. (And I’d buy a Krypto or Ace omnibus, if they ever came out with that.

DC cancelled the “Monster Society of Evil” and “Detective Comics Before Batman” books which I was actually excited for. This is less exciting. I’d be more happy with the Fawcett characters (especially Mary Marvel and Spy Smasher) or the Golden Age Crimson Avenger getting a reprint collection. Sadly, I know this will never happen.

I wonder why Wonder Woman has a pet pig in the movie and not a Kanga?
