Behold the Majesty of Chris Weston’s SUPERMAN — and His Many, Many Variations

With a coloring assist by our own Walt Grogan…

By WALT GROGAN

Sometimes I feel like I sound like a broken record but I stumbled across this absolutely stunning Chris Weston piece online. The amount of detail that Chris put into all these versions of Superman is just staggering, and I love that he capped it off with an amazing, giant, traditional Man of Steel in the dead-center spot!

Chris is well-known for penciling Judge Dredd, Time Breakers, The Invisibles, Ministry of Space, The Filth, and The Twelve. If you haven’t experienced his work, many of those have been collected and are readily available at your favorite online marketplace.

Well, I just had to give that Superman piece some vintage newsprint coloring love!

Here it is sans effects:

And, well, it just cried out for the gif treatment:

A 10-year-old Walt Grogan fell in love with the Big Red Cheese thanks to essays written by Dick Lupoff and Don Thompson in the paperback edition of All in Color for a Dime, released in 1970 and bought for him by his father off a paperback spinner rack in a liquor store on the South Side of Chicago.
