A BILL FINGER Birthday Celebration With His Granddaughter

Artist ATHENA FINGER’s latest painting is an homage to a classic Batman tableau…

The late Bill Finger — born 111 years ago, on Feb. 8, 1914 — was not only Batman’s co-creator, he was the driving force behind so much of what makes the Caped Crusader great.

He also inspired generations of writers and artists who followed — including his granddaughter Athena Finger, the keeper of the family flame.

We’ve shown off Athena’s paintings in the past but she’s got some new ones that she’ll be presenting Saturday night at a special exhibition in Jacksonville, Florida:

Here are some up-close looks:

If that particular classic Finger Batman trope — the Dynamic Duo battling thugs on a gigantic prop — looks especially familiar, it’s an homage to the splash page of 1958’s Batman #115. The story was written by Finger (note the letters on the typewriter above) and illustrated by Sheldon Moldoff and Stan Kaye:

Don’t forget, there’s an ongoing campaign to get Finger a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Click here for more info, or if you want to donate in honor of his birthday.
