The Lord of the Jungle made his comics debut 91 years ago…
There have been Tarzan comics for almost as long as there’s been a Tarzan. Edgar Rice Burroughs’ enduring creation premiered in 1912 and made his way to newspaper strips on Jan 7, 1929, according to the Grand Comics Database.
Many of the greats have illustrated Tarzan’s adventures over the decades — whether in comic-strip or comic-book form — including Burne Hogarth, Russ Manning, John Buscema and Mike Grell, to name just a few.
But for my money, nobody captured the savagery and humanity of the Lord of the Jungle quite like the late Joe Kubert.

Tarzan is truly a legendary character.
