13 SPLASH PAGES: A FRANK MILLER Birthday Celebration

One of comics’ boldest creators was born 66 years ago on Jan. 27, 1957…

Here’s the funny thing about Frank Miller: Dude has done a million things (great and not great) but because of my personal Bat-predilections, I always see him through the prism of The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One, masterpieces both.

But because of that myopia, I’ve barely featured at 13th Dimension the series that made him a star: Daredevil.

Weird, I know, but it is what is, as they say in the vernacular.

So dig these 13 DAREDEVIL SPLASH PAGES to celebrate Miller’s 66th birthday. (Though, in a number of cases I’m using the term loosely. Also: All of these pages were at least inked by the great Klaus Janson. As time went on, Miller did more layouts, with Janson doing the finished art.)

Right on.

  1. These sure bring back some good memories. I think I bought all these issues at the local 7-11 spinner rack. Can’t believe how young Frank was when he did these. Happy Birthday Mr Miller

  2. Frank can provide great detail and under detail an image in the same panel or page and it looks great. I also love the Ditko-esque multi-figure acrobatic maneuvers. Happy Birthday to Mr Tall and Lanky

  3. what great stuff. Reminds me of childhood… 7-11, Hershey Big Block candy bars.

and I know in the minority but i always thought Janson’s ink didn’t do Miller justice. I preferred Rubinstein or Terry Austin …
