13 GREAT ILLUSTRATIONS: A DOUG WILDEY Birthday Celebration

Jonny Quest’s creator was born 99 years ago…

The late illustrator Doug Wildey — born 99 years ago on May 2, 1922 — had a robust career but let’s face it: When you think of Wildey, you think of his greatest creation, Jonny Quest.

The 1964-65 animated series was both of its time and ahead of it, with a legacy that endures to this very day.

Jonny Quest has been adapted a number of times in comics, so it seemed fitting to give Wildey a 13 COVERS salute. Only thing is, there aren’t 13 COVERS — at least as far as I know — so we’ll salute the cartoonist with 13 GREAT ILLUSTRATIONS.

Right on.

  5. Absolutely one of the greatest cartoons ever. My son collected most of the Comico series back in the 90s. They’re still here at our house so I should check to see which ones we’re missing.

  6. The height comparison one was done by Alex Toth (you can see his signature if you look closely), another wonderful artist.
