13 COVERS: The Golden Age FLASH of E.E. HIBBARD

A BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE…

The late Everett E. Hibbard — born 116 years ago, on May 8, 1909 — was one of the most important early Flash artists, as well as the first illustrator to depict the Justice Society of America. (More on that this weekend! Check out SUNDAY FUNNIES With KERRY CALLEN!)

So here’s a 13 COVERS birthday salute starring the Fastest Man Alive! (In the Golden Age, anyway!)

  1. I wish more artists would pay attention to the way E.E. drew Jay’s boots. As a former marathoner, the concept of buccaneer boots on a runner is simply way too much extra weight.

    • That was something brilliant about Infantino’s silver age costume for Barry: nearly everything was aerodynamic. It’s always bugged me when the movies or television try to armor up a runner’s costume

  2. Where is my DC Finest featuring the Golden Age Flash? I’m glad to have the two Archives and I was really bummed when a proposed omni was scrapped a few years ago. Maybe I was reading too much into early DC Finest plans and announcements, but I really thought DCF offered a chance to see some Golden goodness. Instead there have been so many Finests with content that has been reprinted recently or otherwise reprinted so many times. Need Jay Garrick Flash!
