13 COVERS: Kevin Nowlan’s Classic GREEN LANTERN Stylings

A BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE: Channeling the Bronze and Silver Ages…

Kevin Nowlan — born Feb. 7, 1958 — turns 64! What I love most about his work is its timelessness: His most modern art looks like it could have been published 40, 50, even 60 years ago. That’s about the highest compliment I can give.

I mean, no wonder he was tapped to help design the characters for Batman: The Animated Series. And no wonder he was such a great match to ink Neal Adams.

So, in casting about for a 13 COVERS birthday tribute this year, I picked his variant covers from DC Rebirth’s Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps. The books are only about six years old but they groove to that Silver and Bronze Age vibe — even including an homage to this famous 1968 Gil Kane/Sid Greene cover:

So dig these 13 COVERS saluting a consummate pro:

  1. First time seeing these seeing as I skipped New 52 onward. I really like the Kane throwback.
