13 COVERS: BATMAN — Master of the Martial Arts

Cobra Kai’s got nothing on Batman: Soul of the Dragon…

I find DC’s animated movies to be a genuinely mixed bag, but the latest — coming digitally Tuesday, Jan. 12 — is Batman: Soul of the Dragon, an R-rated, ’70s-set flick that’s a mash-up of the Caped Crusader and the kung fu craze of the period.

The film, which will also be out on Blu-ray on Jan. 26, features Batman, Richard Dragon, Ben “Bronze Tiger” Turner and Lady Shiva vs. Kobra in grindhouse action that will have you reaching for Enter the Dragon when it’s over.

Dig this slam-bang trailer:

I’m all for these animated period pieces — including the newly announced Justice Society: World War II. Keep ’em comin’, DC.

Meanwhile, dig these 13 COVERS celebrating Batman’s martial arts prowess — with cameos by Dragon, Bronze Tiger and Shiva, to boot.

Right on.

  1. There’s no denying how awesome Batman is as a martial artist. He’s definitely got so many layers to him. 🙂

  2. Aparo forever.

Also, Legends of the Dark Knight issue # 62 is a great Mignola cover with Bruce Wayne wearing the mask of Tengu.

  3. Ah, I had missed the announcement of this movie coming out, but it looks awesome! It also explains the Richard Dragon collection that (to my mind) sprang out of nowhere in DC’s solicitations.
