13 COVERS: A Salute to MEMORIAL DAY

Featuring Weird War Tales…

War comics are generally grounded in grim reality, but DC Comics in the 1970s took the notion of the deadly battlefield and turned it into genre horror, with Weird War Tales.

Among the series’ best covers were those produced by Luis Dominguez, a 13th Dimension favorite.

So for this year’s 13 COVERS Memorial Day salute, we bring you a reminder that while armed conflict produces its share of heroism and noble service — which we celebrate on Veterans Day — it more frequently brings cold, hard, terrifying death, which we recognize on this day dedicated to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

  1. I remember seeing some of those covers at the time of release. I was no longer buying what the big two were offering the public. The underground’s caught on very quickly with me. I still remember reflecting at the time about people I knew being killed in the Asian Wars ie, Vietnam and asking myself why in hell are these being published ?
