13 COVERS: A RICH BUCKLER Birthday Celebration

The popular artist would have been 69.

Rich Buckler, who was born Feb. 6, 1949, didn’t revolutionize comics — he just produced clean, eye-pleasing pages and covers over and over again. He was a Bronze Age stalwart for both Marvel and DC and everyone seems to have their own favorite Buckler work. Mine are his Superman/Captain Marvel team-ups, which I highlighted in the 13 COVERS salute published when he died last year. (Click here.)

That was a catch-all retrospective, covering many of the titles for which Buckler was known. For this birthday celebration, however, I’m focusing on just one such title: Fantastic Four.

Enjoy.

  1. Gotta admit, I loved Johnny’s red suit they were briefly doing in the ’70’s. Buckler had a great eye.

  2. Fantastic Four 159 might very well be my favorite cover of the bronze age. A masterpiece in concept and execution, and the Sinnott inks are a perfect bridge to the FF’s silver age heyday and of course King Kirby.
