13 COVERS: A JOHN ROMITA Birthday Celebration

Spidey’s greatest artist turns 89!

A bonus cover! Because I can’t not include it!

Every year, I write: “If Spider-Man is my favorite Marvel hero and John Romita Sr. is my favorite Spidey artist, then I suppose John Romita is my favorite Marvel artist of all time.”

It’s true.

And even though Romita — who was born Jan. 24, 1930 — did so much more than Spidey, I will go back to this well again and again for these 13 COVERS birthday salutes. I dig his Spider-Man that much. (I pretty much write that every year now, too.)

Anyway, this time around, I’ve picked kind of an eclectic bunch of covers, focusing largely on Marvel Team-Up. Why? No real reason other than Marvel is bringing the title back in April and it inspired me.

Oh, and that lone, regular Amazing Spider-Man cover? It was my first.

Dig it.

    • Hey, Jim! The Grand Comics Database has Romita credited, which is what we go by. But I would be more than happy to correct the record if someone can say so with certainty. Thanks for the insight!

  2. Marvel Team Up 16! Not my favorite Romita cover but definitely a super overlooked gem of an issue.

But back to the topic,…Happy Birthday John Romita!
