13 COVERS: A JOHN ROMITA Birthday Celebration

Spidey’s greatest artist turns 87!

Last year, I wrote: “If Spider-Man is my favorite Marvel hero and John Romita Sr. is my favorite Spidey artist, then I suppose John Romita is my favorite Marvel artist of all time.”

It’s true.

I also wrote that even though Romita did so much more than Spidey, I will go back to this well again and again for these 13 COVERS salutes until there are no covers left. I dig his Spider-Man that much.

This and the album cover are bonuses. I will always include them in a Romita Spidey salute.

So here are 13 COVERS to celebrate the incredible legacy of one John Romita Sr., who was born Jan. 24, 1930. And if you want to see the 13 COVERS from last year, click here. Year before that? Click here.

One of the greatest toys ever.

  1. And before I even scrolled down and saw it I was going to suggest Spider-Man 134. The first comic book I ever bought and an unheralded Romita cover, imo. Put the hook in me right away. That and Ross Andru’s art inside.

    • JR Sr. is also my favorite Spidey artist and one of the very best overall. The cover of ASM #50, “Spider-Man No More”, is the most beautiful comic book cover ever.
