Stepping away from Gotham City…
—
Inker Joe Giella — one of the last links to the Silver Age — turns 91 today.
Giella was born June 27, 1928, and is best known as the oldest living Batman artist. (He was even in attendance at last week’s opening reception at the Society of Illustrators’ spectacular exhibit on the Caped Crusader.)
Thing is, for the past three years, I’ve naturally highlighted his work on Batman for our 13 COVERS birthday salutes. So, this year I wanted to mix it up.
Hence, Green Lantern. (I could have gone with The Flash, too, but I’ve spent more time on the Scarlet Speedster of late.)
Actually, these might be the only 13 GL covers — each of which was pencilled by Gil Kane — that he inked. Feel free to correct me in the comments if I’m wrong.
Anyway, enjoy this emerald-hued trip back to the Silver Age:

Happy birthday to Mr. Giella. I have always preferred his inking over anyone else on Gil Kane’s and Carmine Infantino’s pencils.
