Darwyn Cooke, one of my favorite artists, would have been 54.

Usually, our 13 COVERS birthday celebrations are reserved for those who’ve left us or for the elder statesmen and stateswomen of comics. Sadly, Cooke fell into the former category and never made it to the latter.
When he died in May, we published a number of retrospectives. (Click here if you’d like to see them.) But a birthday is a celebration of life and there was no way I was going to let today go by without posting these. On a personal level, Cooke’s art was instrumental in my returning to comics after a lengthy hiatus that ended about a decade or so ago. He’s my 17-year-old son’s favorite artist. (In fact, Sam’s favorite cover is the first one below.)
So here are 13 COVERS. I chose to keep it to DC because of his obvious understanding of something that I — and many fans like me — hold dear. If you’d like to see a wider range of 13 COVERS, I invite you to click here to see what we posted just after his death.
Don’t see your favorite? By all means add it in the comments below or in whichever social-media thread you found this. (There are many classics I’ve left out because I didn’t want to repeat myself.)
