HER GRANDFATHER’s LEGACY: Painter ATHENA FINGER Improves On DETECTIVE COMICS #27

Bill Finger would be proud…

Bill Finger’s granddaughter Athena isn’t just the guardian of his Batman legacy, she’s an artist. And what does she like to paint? Well, among other things, Batman, of course.

For example, I was struck by this piece she posted on Facebook on Saturday’s Batman Day:

I want this to be a variant cover, just because it’s so fitting: Athena Finger painting Bob Kane’s cover to Detective Comics #27 — and improving on it. I’m a big fan of the original’s yellow background but in her grandfather’s spirit, Athena — who this week attended the unveiling of Batman’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — found a way to make this iconic image even moodier by altering the sky to an evening blue.

Runs in the family.
