13 COVERS: A MARIE SEVERIN Birthday Celebration

The Marvel stalwart was born Aug. 21, 1929.

Severin, who is turning 87, was one of the only women working in mainstream comics in the Silver and Bronze ages and was one of the preeminent colorists of the day. She was also a terrific penciller with a dynamic style that very much fit with the House of Ideas.

Here is this year’s 13 COVERS tribute — and if your favorite is missing, feel free to add it in the comments below or in whichever social-media thread you found this.

  1. Glad to meet another Marie fan! I’ve had her over to my house. She drew on my walls. i put up frames around it.

  2. I especially love the way she drew the Hulk. Maybe even better than Kirby’s version, if that’s possible.
