Dig this EXCLUSIVE cover reveal — and gallery of 13 FAB LUNCH BOXES — RANKED…

Our pal Jason Young is back with his fifth book on all the things that made growing up in the ’60s and ’70s a very particular type of cool: Get ready for Lunch Box Memories, from his Oldtimes Digest publishing line.

Dig this EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK at the cover, by Mark Spears:

“The latest Oldtimes Digest will shine a light on those vintage metal lunch boxes we all love,” Young said. “Lunch Box Memories is a full-color, 170-page look back that includes a foreword written by an Aladdin lunch box artist, a chapter on the history of lunch boxes themselves, and more than 100 featured old metal lunch boxes that are sure to include your favorites.”

The book joins Jason’s histories of Ben Cooper costumes, Power Records, Whitman coloring books and trading-card wrapper art.

Best part? Lunch Box Memories is already up for pre-order, with a likely late-October publication date. Each copy is $25, plus shipping. Click here — and make sure you read the instructions on the homepage.

  1. Personally, I think the 1967 “Lost in Space” lunchbox tops them all. I’m surprised it’s not on the list. To each his own.

I’m definitely getting the book. In the 1960s, I had a GI Joe lunchbox…the original Joe, not the later versions

  2. Ordered! My brother had LIS, I had Munsters. So many choices back in 1965…

  3. I wonder if the photos only show one side of the lunchbox & thermos or all sides (front, back, top, bottom, right left)?

    • I hope they go with all sides. The great thing about the classic metal lunchboxes was that every square inch of the box had cool illustrations, unlike the plastic boxes that just slapped a sticker on the front and thought that was good enough.

  4. I had the Man From Uncle lunchbox, illustrated by Jack Davis. I was too young to understand the show, but Napoleon Solo throwing a punch was awesome.

  5. Imagine the public schools of today if some kid came in with the Planet of the Apes or the Rifleman ones. They’d melt!
