X-MEN #129: MARVEL to Release EMMA FROST and KITTY PRYDE’s Debuts as Facsimile Edition

EXCLUSIVE: A Claremont and Byrne landmark…

Marvel’s got two Facsimile Editions coming in October — and this one is a doozy: 1979’s X-Men #129, featuring the first appearances of Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost. (The second one can be found here!)

Dig the official solicitation, which will be released by Marvel later this week:

X-MEN #129 FACSIMILE EDITION

Written by CHRIS CLAREMONT & JOHN BYRNE
Penciled by JOHN BYRNE
Cover by JOHN BYRNE

In one uncanny issue, the X-Men meet two of the most important mutants they will ever know! One will become one of the greatest X-Men of all — and the other will spend years as a bitter enemy before proving herself a hero. They’re Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost, and their destinies are intertwined! In their first appearance, Frost — White Queen of the insidious Hellfire Club — seeks to persuade Pryde to join her Massachusetts Academy rather than Xavier’s School. She’s one headmistress who’s strict about getting her own way — and the X-Men will soon learn just how strict! Meanwhile, the Hellfire Club’s Jason Wyngarde exerts his influence over Jean Grey in the first chapter of the Dark Phoenix Saga! It’s one of the all-time great Marvel comic books, boldly re-presented in its original form, ads and all! Reprinting X-MEN (1963) #129.

A few thoughts:

— The issue is due to go on sale Oct. 25, 2023.

— This is also Sebastian Shaw’s first appearance. Given all these debuts and how much attention Marvel has been giving to the Hellfire Club the last couple of years, I’m a mite surprised it’s taken this long to get this Facsimile out there.

Obligatory Price Comparison: An, unslabbed NM+ copy of an original recently sold on eBay for about $540. A price hasn’t been announced but Facsimile Editions are generally around four bucks.
