WEIRD WEDDING TALES: Dig This Gallery of Nutty Comics Nuptials

“I now pronounce you demon and wife…”

You may not necessarily want to think in these terms, but comic books are soap operas. Sure, there’s the adventure of the month, but the key to so much of comics drama comes from the heroes and villains’ interpersonal relationships.

Hell, Siegel and Shuster understood that right off the bat with the Superman-Lois Lane-Clark Kent “triangle.”

Anyway, Back Issue #123 — out Oct. 21 — gets into all that will-they-or-won’t-they with the Superhero Romance Issue.

Check out the table of contents:

Now, of course, not all superhero relationships are serious affairs. Sometimes they’re off-the-wall bonkers — and I’m not even talking about Donna Troy marrying creepy Terry Long.

I’m talking about that time Jimmy Olsen married Lois. Or the time Jimmy married a gorilla. Or the time Lois married the Devil.

Well, BI #123 has a groovy gallery of WEIRD WEDDING TALES — which we present to you in this EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT.

You may now kiss the monster.

Back Issue #123 is due out Oct. 21. It will be available in comics shops and at magazine sellers. You can also order it directly through publisher TwoMorrows. (Click here.)

  1. The Batman Family 11 is one of my all time top fave covers

  2. That Super Gnome cover always freaked me out. Something about the look on the little guy’s face.

  3. Is there something wrong with me that I have most of these, even though some of them pre-date my birth?

I bought Batman Family 11 off the spinner racks when I was 5 or 6. Love Robin’s tux and wish he had worn it in the issue (other than the splash page).

Another favorite wedding cover of mine, Flash 194 by Neal Adams. You know you’re in for a bad wedding when Satan is performing the ceremony and the bride is headless.
