VALIANT Goes Batty With September BATMAN Anniversary Variant Covers

Even other companies are celebrating the Dark Knight’s 85th anniversary…

Hey, I guess everyone loves Batman, especially when it’s his 85th anniversary year.

Publishing partners Alien Books and Valiant Comics in September will pay tribute to comics’ greatest character with a quartet of variant covers that homage the hero published by… DC Comics.

Gotta give ’em credit for brass, I say.

Dig these, along with comments by Alien Books Art Director Martín Casanova:

ARCHER & ARMSTRONG ASSASSIN NATION #2 Bat Homage Variant Cover by Andres Ponce
Homage to Detective Comics #38 by Bob Kane & Jerry Robinson
On Sale 9/4/24
$4.99 U.S.

“When we had to choose a cover for Archer and Armstrong, I thought about the first appearance of Robin immediately. I thought it would be funny if Robin’s place was performed by Armstrong, which would make Archer the skilled and smarter of the pair — it makes sense!” — Casanova

BLACK, WHITE & BLOODSHOT #1 Bat Homage Variant Cover by Al Barrionuevo
Homage to Batman: Black and White #1 by Jim Lee
On Sale 9/11/24
$4.99 U.S.

Batman: Black and White #1 was a bit of an obvious choice since it’s the comic that started the monochromatic (sometimes bichromatic) trend so it was perfect for the debut issue of Bloodshot’s very own anthology series.” — Casanova

RESURGENCE OF THE VALIANT UNIVERSE #1 Bat Homage Variant Cover by Juan José Ryp
Homage to Batman #321 by José Luis García-López
On Sale 9/18/24
$4.99 U.S.

“The Resurgence variant is based on Batman #321 because it’s an iconic Joker cover and we wanted to showcase our main villain of the event, Dr. Silk. It also allowed us to play with a more retro design with all the text boxes and dialogue balloons that you don’t really see as much of on today’s covers.” — Casanova

NINJAK VS. ROKU #4 Bat Homage Variant Cover by Nobi
Homage to Batman: The Dark Knight Returns #1 by Frank Miller
On Sale 9/25/24
$4.99 U.S.

The Dark Knight Returns #1 was another obvious choice and I love that Nobi decided to use Roku’s hair in the place of the lightning. That was his idea! He also made a different design that was based on another iconic image by Frank Miller that we didn’t choose and I’m dying to use it some time in the future.”
