Two Major PUNISHER FACSIMILE EDITIONS Coming in February

EXCLUSIVE: One’s a first-timer, the other’s a new printing of a Daredevil classic…

As we noted over here, Marvel in February is returning to a month-to-month release schedule for its Facsimile Editions, instead of yearlong runs, as we’ve seen the last couple years.

Coming in February? Civil War #7 (click here) and two classics starring the Punisher — the first issue of his original series (the miniseries that debuted in October 1985) and a new printing of 1982’s Daredevil #183, by Frank Miller, Roger McKenzie and Klaus Janson.

Dig the solicitations, which will be formally released by Marvel later this month:

When a young girl dies, Daredevil and the Punisher both hunt down the drug dealer responsible for her death. Matt Murdock is determined to make the perpetrator pay for his crimes in accordance with the law, but Frank Castle has other ideas. Can the Punisher persuade Daredevil to join him in his endless war – or will they come to blows? With the legendary Frank Miller illustrating, you’d better hope it’s the latter! Many thoughts:

— Why’s the Punisher getting the spotlight? For one thing, a new ongoing series by Benjamin Percy and Jose Luis Soares (with a main cover by David Marquez, above) begins Feb. 25. It picks up from the current mini The Punisher: Red Band.

— For another, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 — which will include Frank Castle — is set to premiere on Disney+ on March 26, and a Punisher TV special is expected to run on the streamer around the same time.

— That 198os Punisher mini was actually a five-parter.

Obligatory Price Comparison #1: An unslabbed, high-grade original The Punisher #1 recently sold on eBay for $177.50.

Obligatory Price Comparison #2: An unslabbed, NM original Daredevil #183 recently went for $100. You can still find the 2023 Facsimile for its $3.99 cover price.

  1. There is so much Golden, Silver and Bronze Age that hasn’t been touched why are we going to the dark ages of the ‘80s? So many great books that deserve a reprint. At least I’m saving $$$. (Just the opinion of this old comic fan and his jaded taste in what makes a good comic.)
