This BATMAN ’66 Collectible Just Made My Summer

Something so little can mean so much…

When I was little, maybe 5 years old tops, I remember being at the beach and seeing this really, really cool towel, featuring Batman and Robin in the Batmobile. Some kid had it and it was just laying there in the sand.

I gotta tell you — I wanted it. Really wanted it. To the point where it put larceny in my soul.

The Bat-Blog was the only place I could find a picture.

But it wasn’t meant to be. And who knows why but I never got a Batman beach towel. A terrycloth Batman poncho, yes, but not a beach towel.

So imagine my surprise this week when I was folding the laundry and I pulled out … THIS:

As Aunt Harriet would say, “Mercy me!”

See, my wife Wendy decided it would be a nice surprise in these Dog Days of August. And she wasn’t kidding. Just look at all the characters: It’s almost everyone whose likeness is available to merchandisers, including both Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt Catwomen. (All done up by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, too.)

And I just love the whole DayGlo treatment. Groovy, baby.

Where to get it? Well, she got it at Amazon for about $26 but it’s readily available elsewhere.

Holy Jersey Shore!
