These 13 Brilliant HALLOWEEN CARTOONS Bring the Groovy and the Ghoulish

Introducing… KARL THE KALENDAR MAN!

Hey, dig this — we’re kicking off a fancy new recurring feature: KARL THE KALENDAR MAN!

Karl, as you may have already figured out, is Karl Heitmueller Jr., a cartoonist and writer who has not only been a contributor to 13th Dimension for some time but whose Prince Street News feature has long been a staple of Back Issue magazine. (You know him from his brilliant WHAT IF 13 SUPERHEROES WORE BEN COOPER COSTUMES INSTEAD?)

So, what’s this all about? Well, Karl loves turning comics inside out and upside down with cartoons that parody everything from superheroes to movies to books to TV to, well, you name it. Not just that, he loves to play around with the seasons, riffing on holidays and anniversaries and how they intersect with pop culture. Hence, KARL THE KALENDAR MAN — a monthly feature where we’ll be showing off 13 of Karl’s cartoons that share a specific theme.

And what better way to start than Halloween? So dig these 13 BRILLIANT HALLOWEEN CARTOONS — a collection of the groovy and the ghoulish.

Right on.

You can find more of Karl’s art at Tough Guy Goods & Services. Click here. And if you’re in the New York metropolitan area, Karl’s work is being exhibited along with fellow artist Matt Caputo’s at 313 Gallery, 313 Third St., Jersey City, N.J., through Nov. 20. Call (732) 877-9116 for hours and details. Karl plans to be there Saturday!
