THE SIMPSONS 800th EPISODE POSTER: It’s an Honor to Do the Honors

MORRISON MONDAYS!

By BILL MORRISON

Last, month, on February 15, to be exact, The Simpsons’ 800th episode aired to great fanfare, and I was delighted and honored to have been asked to draw the official poster for the occasion.

At the time, I was preparing a post about Curt Swan’s birthday, but I made a mental note to share the art in a future column. Well, today is that day!

The episode, titled “Irrational Treasure,”  involves Marge Simpson taking the Simpsons’ family pet, Santa’s Little Helper, to a dog show in Philadelphia, where she and Homer get involved in a National Treasure-esque conspiracy.

The episode was packed with Philadelphia jokes and references, as is my poster, and also included several Philly natives as guest stars, including Quinta Brunson, Questlove, Kevin Bacon, and Boyz II Men.

Although I drew the poster, the typography and color was brilliantly engineered by my longtime Bongo pal and associate, Serban Cristescu.

The airing of the 800th episode closed out the 37th season of the show, and it’s renewed through the 40th season. So, we have at least three more seasons to look forward to.

Will The Simpsons ever die? Who knows, but one thing is sure: It continues to be a “national treasure!” (Go ahead and groan, see if I care!)
