We have a special guest here for SPIDER-MAN WEEK: THE MANY LOVES OF PETER PARKER — Mark Chiarello, who’s essentially pinch-hitting for our pal Bill Morrison, who’s on hiatus. (Though we do have a really groovy Morrison reprint today and Bill will have his own, new entry for the feature’s epilogue, a week from now.)

Anyway, Mark, who is remarkably modest — just check out his brief, self-written bio at the bottom of this post — is one of the most influential and highly respected comics personalities of the last 30 years or so. For starters, he created Batman: Black and White, Solo, and Wednesday Comics, and was the editor of Darwyn Cooke’s DC: The New Frontier. And that’s just scratching the surface. He’s also well known for his baseball paintings and illustrations, as well as other graphic design work.

So, it’s a real gas for him to be here this week, with a piece he just happened to do of Mary Jane Watson reading Jaws, as if it were 1975:

Mark even ended up using the headshot for the variant cover of 2025’s The Amazing Spider-Man: Torn #2:

Mark was a natural choice to join us and I’m glad he accepted the invite. After all, have you seen his other recent Spider-Man covers? They’re, well, amazing!
