The GEORGE PEREZ ’80s DC Postcard Covers We’d Love to See

A BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE to the late artist…

We’ve spent a lot of time on DC’s George Perez ’80s postcard variant covers that are out this month. But the thing about the 10-issue set is that there are plenty of other postcards that have been left out. Though, who knows: Maybe their day will come.

But in case they don’t, our pal and colorist Rich Seetoo has put together six more, not including Elongated Man simply because, as he said, “I just didn’t have a feel for it.”

In any event, dig these others as a tribute to the late Perez, whose birthday was 71 years ago, on June 9, 1954:

It’s worth noting that it’s not always easy to come by high-res imagery of the original postcards but Rich did a bang-up job nonetheless.

“I wanted to make imaginary covers for the postcards that DC did not use,” Rich wrote on Facebook. “I did not want to replicate their layout, so pretend my covers came out after Crisis on Infinite Earths #12 was published and was part of a new publishing plan at DC.”

We can do that, Rich!

Here’s that Elongated Man card, by the way:

Oh, and check out the Facebook group The Color Art and Design of Rich Seetoo today. Rich has other pieces planned in tribute to Perez’s birthday.

Rad.

  1. The J’onn J’onzz postcard could be used as a variant cover on the Absolute MM series(ironic that
this version has his own series but not the original). The Hawkman postcard could be used as a variant cover for JSA.

  2. I scanned my set of postcards at 4698×7171 but the printing of those cards were just okay. I really wish DC would reprint them as a portfolio with the better coloring or in black and white line art.
