The 1980s MIKE ZECK Ongoing PUNISHER Series You Never Knew Existed — Because It Didn’t

HOPE YOU LIKE IT: The Art of DAKOTA ALEXANDER…

By DAKOTA ALEXANDER

After the cavalcade of colorful campiness of Carmine’s Caped Crusader Pinups from the 1960s, we’re gonna set a new time on the 13th Dimension DeLorean — the dark, gritty, and violent vibes of the mid-1980s.

And who better represents this intense change in tone than Marvel’s most popular antihero, the Punisher!

Love him or hate him, the Punisher (whose latest TV foray launches May 12) has been an undeniable part of Marvel’s legacy for over 50 years now. Starting as a “complicated bad guy” in Spider-Man’s rogues gallery in 1973, it took the Punisher over a decade to move from the sidelines to mainstream headliner, thanks to the iconic 1986 Punisher miniseries, by Steven Grant, Mike Zeck, John Beatty, and Mike Vosburg. (The first issue was even released recently as a Facsimile Edition.)

Everyone has their favorite versions of their beloved Marvel characters, and Mike Zeck’s Punisher for me is the peak rendition of Frank Castle.

So, I’ve created a Marvel house ad for a fictitious Punisher monthly series, done with great respect to Zeck.

Hope you like it.
