The 1976 MIGHTY MARVEL CALENDAR to Be Re-Released for 2026

Three cheers for the red, white and blue…

Next year is the nation’s 250th birthday. 1976 was the bicentennial. Abrams ComicArts and Marvel have put two and two together and will re-release the 1976 Mighty Marvel Calendar for 2026.

This of course follows this year’s re-release of the 1975 Mighty Marvel Calendar, which came in concert with The Mighty Marvel Calendar Book: A Visual History, by our pal Chris Ryall.

But get this: Part of the appeal of the 2025 calendar is that its dates line up with 1975’s, so you can admire the original and use it at the same time. Different case here. 1976 was a leap year. 2026 isn’t — so the dates are being adjusted so you can still use it as an actual calendar.

Fun and utilitarian!

Dig the official description from online retailers:

First published in 1976 and reissued for the first-time ever for 2026, this spiral-bound wall calendar is a glorious, full-color 12-month trek through America’s founding with the Marvel Comics Super Heroes.

Explore America’s history alongside the Marvel Super Heroes with this vibrant 12-month calendar originally created for the 1976 Bicentennial and reproduced in full for the first time ever!

Each month is chock full of historical info and Marvel Comics memorabilia with 12 full-color images created especially for this calendar by Marvel’s mightiest artists: John Romita Sr., Herb Trimpe, Gil Kane, John Buscema, Ross Andru, Frank Brunner, Jim Starlin, and many others. Join the Hulk at Valley Forge, Conan at the Battle of Lexington, and the Avengers at the crossing of the Delaware!

Printed on sturdy cardstock with a spiral binding, it was the buy of the 1976 Bicentennial and now the 2026 Semiquincentennial.

Also included are major holidays and observances from around the world specific to 2026.

Calendar dates have been adjusted for 2026—1976 was a leap year, 2026 is not.

Happy Birthday, America!

A few thoughts:

— This is one of three Marvel retro calendars Abrams ComicArts is planning for 2026, at least so far. (It’s not clear yet whether there will be another Alex Ross calendar.) Dig the links below for the others!

— The 1976/2026 Mighty Marvel Calendar lists for $19.99 and is due July 15, 2025. Since Marvel and Abrams are willing to switch the dates around, these reprints could go on for years. Let’s hope so!

Obligatory Price Comparison: A VF+ original 1976 calendar recently sold on eBay for about $50.

  1. I loved these calendars as a kid. MARVEL had a sense of humor, Spider-Man is battling the fleet led by Sir Peter Parker in the month of June.
