It’s flying high into autumn…
This weekend (9/23-9/25) is the Cincinnati Comic Expo — and among the many special guests will be the original 1966 Batcopter along with replicas of the Batmobile and the Batcycle. But this time, a Catwoman has been added to the mix: Lee Meriwether.
Meriwether will be joining Capt. Eugene Nock and his Bat-family for photos with the greatest of Batman’s flying machines — and you can join the Bat-fun: Fans on Saturday will have a chance to be photographed with Meriwether and the Batcopter.
I spoke to Ms. Meriwether about just what’s so special to fans about having a close encounter with these vehicles.
“I understand it completely,” she said. “It’s a part of their youth and part of the excitement of watching something that on television or in the film that most people don’t get to see. You can’t go to Atlanta and see Gone With the Wind houses there now. Y’know that sort of thing. But this, they bring it to us, so I think it’s wonderful.”
If I were in Cincinnati, I’d most definitely be there. (The Batcopter and Meriwether will be there all weekend but the photo session is Saturday only. It starts at 6:30 and costs $50 per person, Nock tells me. Fans get to use their own cameras. For more info on the show itself, click here.)
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Visiting with the Batcopter — serial no. N3079G — is a magical experience, whether you fly in it like I did here or just hang out with it.
Now, if you’re not in Cincy this weekend, there are other chances to see the Batcopter this fall (sans Meriwether), depending on where you are — or how far you’re willing to travel. And, as always, we’ll bring you periodic updates here at 13th Dimension:
— 10/15-16: Flying W Airshow, Medford, N.J. Click here for info.
— 10/29-30: FantastiCon, Fort Wayne, Ind. Click here for info.
