Magnificent.
OK, so we already brought you the EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK at Batman: A Celebration of the Classic TV Series by Bob Garcia and Joe Desris, along with 13 QUICK THOUGHTS on why it’s a must-have item.
If you missed it, click here to read it. I promise it’s time well spent. (Hell, even if you did read it, read it again. You know you want to.)
Anyway, there’s so much more that one overview wasn’t going to be enough. So I decided to pick 13 of the coolest images to show off to you here. I’ll tell you though, you could just as easily pick 13 different pix and 13 more after that, and so on, the book is so packed.
But this is my site, so hey, I get to play Bat-curator.
(Oh, and I’ve got a video review coming as well, so watch out for that. UPDATED: Here it is! Click here!)
Now, one of the highlights of the book is the inclusion of a whole Batcave full of production-design art by Leslie Thomas. A number of these images made the rounds just a few weeks ago. But guess what: This book has even more of them — and some of my favorites are below.
I tell you, somebody at Warner Bros. Consumer Products has to get on the ball and sell these as prints. I saw some of this art hanging at the Museum of the City of New York last year and it was mesmerizing. (2018 calendar, anyone? A comic book done up in this style? Sigh, the Bat-possibilities.)
But perhaps the best of all? Pat Barto’s costume design sketch of the Batgirl costume. In living color.
So buckle in, chum (and chumettes?) — and check out the 13 GROOVIEST PIX FROM THE GREATEST BATMAN ’66 BOOK:

Pat Barto

I want that shirt!!

Leslie Thomas

How very modern Batman… No trunks!

More Thomas art — with Catwoman as a blonde! (Julie Newmar has often worn her hair blonde.)

More Thomas art. I dig Eartha Kitt’s hair.

Even the Bat Labels get recognition!

Some breakdowns of the Barris Batmobile.

More Thomas. This is one of my absolute faves. Check out all those mannequin heads! And the crime lab!
