Remember how great this thing is?
The All New Collectors’ Edition #C-58 Superman vs. Shazam! Facsimile Edition is set to hit May 28. Oh, hooray!
If you have the original and are looking to experience it all over again — or if you don’t and want to get a peek inside — below is the prologue, along with the front and back covers.
The 1978 multiversal epic, which gave us the historic, first full encounter between the Man of Steel and the World’s Mightiest Mortal, was written by Gerry Conway, pencilled by Rich Buckler (doing his best Neal Adams) and inked by the greatest of them all, Dick Giordano.
You get Earth-One, Earth-S and a villain with a weird eyeball fetish. What more could you ask for?
The final order cutoff for the Facsimile Edition (regular cover, $14.99; foil cover, $16.99) is Monday, May 5. So make sure you let your local comics shop know you want yours.

One of my all-time most cherished comics… I still have my original copy that’s taped and stapled back together multiple times…

I have the original. Great art but the Marvels were written wildly out of character, especially Mary’s slobbering over the roughly 2x her age Superman.

Well the Marvels were in suspendium so technically Mary is older than Superman.

Another ocassion for lamenting that DC changed Captain Marvel’s name to Shazam! We all “got” that Shazam! was the name of the magazine, the TV show, and etc., not the magically super-powered character. Copyrights allow it, so why not keep it the way it was as presented in this wonderful treasury story? Was it a merchandising decision? DC-licensed merchandise of the character had been around since 1972. Was the name really changed in 2011 because of “casual readers”, or was this just one more mistake of the New 52? After all, they haven’t changed Superman’s name to “Action”. Since so much of the New 52 has been reversed, why not reverse this renaming decision? “Casual readers” may have reasons for not picking up this treasury facsimile, but I’d bet it’s not because the Captain Marvel name is inside.

This may have been my last purchase at an actual C2E2 convention. Memory serves me right, it was also the weekend I proposed to my now-wife! So I walked away from that convention weekend with a partner for life, and $30 for a damn fine quality copy of the original treasury! For people that haven’t checked this book out yet, PICK UP THAT FACSIMILE! There’s so many great art and action moments from Rich Buckler to marvel at!
