SUPERMAN #199: The 1967 SUPERMAN-FLASH Race Facsimile Edition Is Speeding Your Way

EXCLUSIVE! Relive their first race in November…

IMPORTANT FANCY NOTE: Clear your decks in November, Facsimile Edition fans: DC Comics has added seven such full-on reprints to its fall schedule — six in November, and an early solicitation for one in December. (And yes, there will be plenty more in December, but that news is about a month away.) Not just that, we have some BIG related news coming Friday! Now to keep it all straight, we’ve broken the selection down into multiple parts, because several of these demand solo treatment and exploration. You can find the links to everything at the bottom of this post!

Here’s a fun one: DC in November will produce the groovy 1967 Silver Age classic Superman #199, featuring the first race between the Man of Steel and the Flash.

Dig the official solicitation info, which will be formally released later this week:

Well, place your bets, racing fans! When the Man of Steel and the Scarlet Speedster agree to a race to raise funds for the U.N.’s efforts battling poverty across the world, the whole world catches racing fever—including two competing criminal cartels determined to rig the results! Good thing neither of our racers was ever known to let a little crime slow them down!

Buncha thoughts:

— Not that they need to but it’d be fun if DC also gave us Facsimile Editions of 1967’s The Flash #175, as well as 1970’s World’s Finest Comics #198 and #199. We have gotten the Limited Collectors’ Edition #C-48: Superman vs. the Flash Facsimile, which included Superman #199 and The Flash #175, plus some cool features.

— My wife, Wendy, always insists the Flash is faster because he specializes.

— Again, as I noted above, we’ve got plenty of other groovy Facsimile Edition news to report. Links below!

Obligatory Price Comparison: An unslabbed, high-grade original Superman #199 recently sold on eBay for $415. That’s more than I would have expected.

  1. It was the young Jim Shooter’s idea, and thanks to his script and Curt Swan’s art, it’s not only the first, but still the best race between Superman and the Flash.
