STARTING OVER: DC to Re-Release BATMAN GOLDEN AGE OMNIBUS Volume 1

But when I see you darling / It’s like we both are falling in love again…

Well, alrighty. Earlier in April we reported that DC will wrap up the Batman Golden Age Omnibus series with Vol. 10. (Click here for that little scooplet.)

So, dig this: The publisher is releasing a new printing of the first volume in September, according to the solicitations released by DC on Friday:

Offered again! Reread Batman’s 1939 debut and other early tales in this collection of Golden Age classics. Since his first appearance in Detective Comics #27, Batman has become one of the most popular comics characters in the world, appearing in multimillion-dollar movie franchises, TV shows, video games, and other media. Batman: The Golden Age Omnibus Vol. 1 features the very first appearance of Batman and introduces such classic characters as Commissioner James Gordon, Robin, The Joker, Catwoman, the Penguin, and many more! Reprints stories from Detective Comics #27-56, Batman #1-7, New York World’s Fair Comics #2, World’s Best Comics #1, and World’s Finest Comics #2-3.

A couple thoughts:

— I am not a huge omnibus fan personally, so I slept on these when they were first released. But I think I’m gonna take the plunge here. Between this line and the recently launched Batman Silver Age Omnibus series, this’ll be my only legitimate chance to own virtually all of Batman’s Golden and Silver Age stories.

— The cover image above is the one DC released on Friday. Sometimes they change trade dress at moments like this, so perhaps this is just a placeholder. The Silver Age series has a different look, for example:

  1. I just wish DC would continue its “Golden/Silver/Bronze Age” TPB reprint lines. I’m spending a lot of money on Marvel’s Epic Collections when I could be spending on DC volumes. I’d love to have all the Batman issues at least up till COIE. Same with Superman.

(Why not buy Omnibuses? Because they’re bulky, very heavy, and not comfortable to read, imo. I have the Robin Omnibus and would really rather have TPB versions.)

    • I’d be happy with everything up to COIE. But, what are the “TPB”?
