SNEAK PEEK: Inside the NEAL ADAMS DC CLASSICS ARTIST’S EDITION

IT’S ALMOST HERE: This is the one we’ve been waiting for…

Our pal Scott Dunbier overnight posted pix online from an advance copy of the upcoming Neal Adams DC Classics Artist’s Edition, published by IDW.

We’re not gonna stand on ceremony. We’re just gonna get right to it:

Plus, here’s even more from an online retailer listing:

Several thoughts:

— “It’s a monster,” Scott wrote on Facebook. “288 pages plus 5 foldouts… There are seven complete stories plus a ton of covers and pages. Ridiculously big. Which is what Neal deserves, a larger than life book for a larger than life man. There is a truly heartfelt intro by Bill Sienkiewicz.”

— The oversize hardcover lists for $150 and is scheduled for a July release. But perhaps it’ll be here sooner since Scott got his copies in. I have a message in to IDW and will update this when I get clarity. (UPDATED: IDW confirms this is still set for July.)

— I have a number of Artist’s Editions, which replicate original comics art to the nth degree, but this has been the one I’ve wanted the most. (No surprise there, I know.) I simply cannot wait.

— We’ve run a couple of EXCLUSIVE INSIDE LOOKS already and you can find the links below.

— Reminder: The book will have five covers. Two from IDW, including the one you see above, and two Neal Adams online store exclusives. (I’ve ordered the one that features the Batman #251 cover.) There will also be an IDW direct-to-consumer exclusive, utilizing the Superman #252 wraparound.

— This is Scott’s last Artist’s Edition for IDW. He’s opened his own publishing company, Act 4. Their first Artist’s Edition will be out this fall — the Jim Aparo DC Classics Artist’s Edition. (Click here for your EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK.)

  1. I have been reluctant to whisper mention of its arrival for fear the god of misfortune would delay it again.

  2. It is literally a textbook for a masters class on storytelling in comic form. Really excited to see this ship. Will definitely be a key piece of my collection to showcase around.

  4. not for publishing-Dan please confirm the number of pages. You have typed Scott as saying 288 pages plus fold outs (I’m not a FB user so I cannot confirm) but the Neal Adams store says 248 pages plus fold outs. So I think there is a typo somewhere and I do not wish to embarrass anyone. Thanks!

    • I’m going with 288. That’s coming from Scott and he edited it. Who’d know better?

  5. I have no room this book and I even passed on the Paul Smith X-Men Artists Edition for this very reason but I still pulled the trigger on this because its Neal Adams.
