SET PHASERS ON STUNNING: Des Taylor’s Women of STAR TREK

DESPOP TUESDAYS!

Been awhile since we’ve run anything strictly about Star Trek, but our pal Des Taylor is here with a gleefully galactic gallery of 1960s Starfleet fashion.

Dig this:

Pinup model Stephanie Castro

When it comes to blending classic pop culture with sleek pin-up style, few do it better than our very own Despop. He brings a bold, retro-futuristic take on the Starfleet aesthetic that pays homage to Gene Roddenberry’s universe, with a touch of silver-screen glamor.

His art, by the way, was featured in the 2016 anniversary exhibition Star Trek: 50 Artists, 50 Years and the superb concurrent book.

Des’ Star Trek art has also attracted real-world muses. Notable pin-up models MJ Becker and Stephanie Castro (above) have donned his designs, bringing his stylish Starfleet sirens to life.

  1. The Pre-Raphaelites of 19th-century England were famous for calling gorgeous women “stunners” (Jane Morris and Elizabeth Siddal being two notables). Such seems to be a highly appropriate and perfect Star Trek term here, all the more as further demonstrated by Mr. Taylor. A great Trekkie double entendre.
