Samnee’s BATMAN AND ROBIN: YEAR ONE #1 Cover is a Grand Homage to BATMAN ’66

Recognize these guys?

Looking at the main cover for the newly announced Batman and Robin: Year One by Mark Waid and Chris Samnee, it was the guy with the wild red hair on the left who tipped me off:

It took me half a beat and then I realized he’s from the animated opening credits of the 1966 Batman TV show. And then I scanned and realized — they’re all from the opening credits of the show.

King Cobra! The guy with the sheet over his head! The Joker! The Penguin! Catwoman! Clayface! The random thugs!

This is just… fantastic. Samnee devised and illustrated that cover and it speaks to everything we can expect from this 12-issue series: a celebration of the Dynamic Duo with wit, drama and charm, but without the camp.

Bring it.
