But get this: Ron Frenz and Brett Breeding have a magnificent homage to Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers’ 1962 Fantastic Four #12 cover coming, as an Issue #2 variant.

Check out Frenz’s pencils…

… with Breeding’s inks…

… and the original:

It’s the addition of the bus that puts it over the top, isn’t it?

Issue #1 is due Feb. 4, 2026. No release date has been announced for Issue #2, and obviously this is not the final version of the variant. (Coincidentally, the Fantastic Four #12 Facsimile Edition is coming out this Wednesday, Dec. 10.)

  1. If only Frenz’s pencils were inside the cover then I might care. Just as there is a market to sell retro-covers and facsimile editions, I would bet (long enough to at least try) there is still a market for old-school style art in the comics.
