Oh, let there be more…
When DC started publishing Super Powers variant covers by Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and Alex Saviuk in 2024, the natural question was whether they’d get made into actual action figures.
Well, for Bronze Age Nightwing the answer is… yes!

A number of thoughts:
— I’m not saying there’s causality — at all — but when I asked McFarlane Toys in May 2024 whether the company would turn the DC variant covers (which are having a second wave) into figures, the answer was “We have no firm commitments… but you never know!”
— Again, they may have been planning on doing this anyway, but it does give me hope that we could still get Shirtless Batman.
— Overall, that’s a terrific wave. Fans have wanted Cyborg brought back from the original series (though he doesn’t appear to be chrome). Deadman is a great choice — and big bonus points for Animal Man! (Looks like he’ll come with a removable cloth jacket.)
— I’m sure some of you are thinking, “Dan, McFarlane has done Gold Superman too.” True, but that was before the covers.
— The wave is slated for a summer release but that can always change. Just keep your eye out for pre-order info.
— Biggest question of all: How many Super Powers waves are coming before McFarlane’s license expires in the middle of 2026? Or will they be getting some kind of carve-out from new master license holder Mattel? That’s what everyone who cares about these things wants to know.
— This is only a tiny sliver of McFarlane’s WonderCon presentation. Check out the inpursuitoftoys Instagram for lots more groovy retro stuff — like a 7-inch Nightwing!
