July’s New History of the DC Universe Book Two — by Mark Waid, this time joined by artists Brad Walker and Mike Allred — will cover the Silver and Bronze Ages, according to the solicitation DC released Friday.

Dig the description — and several of the variant covers, including Scott Koblish’s latest monster group shot:

The DC Universe as we know it begins to take shape as a mysterious ship crash-lands in Smallville, and years later, Superman makes his debut. Meanwhile, in Gotham City, Batman emerges from the shadows to clean its crime-ridden streets, and after years of isolation from Man’s World, Wonder Woman leaves the paradise of Themyscira for modern society. A new age of heroes dawns as Barry Allen recounts the formation of the Justice League through the events up to and leading to his death during the Crisis on Infinite Earths!

A few thoughts:

— These are always the issues that interest me the most with these sorts of projects. No surprise there.

— DC has yet to release the covers by Karl Kerschl and Ryan Sook. If Sook’s is anything like the one he’s doing for Book One, it’ll be fab. Total guess time: Sook’s will focus on the Justice League and Kerschl’s on the Teen Titans. I have nothing to base that on. Just conjecturing. Can’t wait to find out.

— If you can name every character on Koblish’s cover, you win two imaginary dollars.

  1. While I like the Koblish cover, I don’t necessarily get why certain characters are in certain places. If it were about when they were created, then it makes sense to have the various war heroes (Sgt. Rock & Easy Co., Unknown Soldier, Enemy Ace, etc.) on the silver/bronze age cover. But then on the left, you have some of the “lost” golden age kid sidekick characters recently introduced into continuity during Geoff John’s last run on the JSA. /shrug

Still, this is a great cover. And dig all those Legionnaires at the top! My heart soars to see them there.

    • Including the “lost” Golden Age kids here is going to make the removal of Amazing Man from the previous picture look pretty weird!

  2. Excuse my ignorance – what age are we in? And what are the other ages since bronze?
