The luminary returns to his alma mater for a comics celebration…
It’s no secret in these parts that Neal Adams is at the top of my personal hit parade of comics artists. So, I’m tickled to see him return to his Manhattan high school for a special comics show Feb. 16 and 17.
The High School of Art and Design — called the School of Industrial Art in Neal’s day — is hosting Fanfaire NYC 2019, presented by what might the planet’s coolest PTA.
The two-day show will feature not just Adams, but fellow alumni Art Spiegelman and Larry Hama, as well as dozens of other creators and vendors, such as Adam Kubert, Amy Chu and 13th Dimension animation fave J.J. Sedelmaier.
(The school has an incredible list of alumni who went on to profoundly influential careers in comics or animation — namely Carmine Infantino, Dick Giordano, John Romita, Alex Toth, Al Plastino, Chic Stone, Allen Bellman, Joe Orlando, Joe Giella, Ralph Bakshi, Frank Brunner, Joe Jusko, Alan Kupperberg, Mike Carlin, Denys Cowan, Jimmy Palmiotti, Mark Texeira, Jamal Igle and Joe Madureira. Wow.)
So if you’re in the New York area next weekend, check it out. I can’t think of a better way to support the next generation of creators while rubbing elbows with comics legends and top-flight pros.
You can hit up Fanfaire NYC 2019 for more info — including how to get tickets.
